The Challenge
Creating a New Model for Beauty
Jennifer Albert envisioned a new model for the beauty industry a creative collective where established fashion and hair artists could build their own businesses while remaining part of a collaborative community built around creativity education and shared growth.
Rather than a traditional salon model, JA Studios was designed to give independent artists a place to work, collaborate and develop their own brands while offering clients an elevated beauty experience.
Beyond a physical studio JA needed to become a complete brand ecosystem, one that could attract top talent, build client trust, and extend into a premium self-care product collection.
The challenge was transforming this vision into a complete brand ecosystem, creating a name, identity, product architecture, and digital presence that could establish trust, communicate premium quality, and support future growth.
Defining the JA Brand Language
Translating strategy into a visual world
JA needed to occupy a distinctive space within beauty and self-care – minimalist, sophisticated, premium, and approachable, with an organic quality that reflected its independent and artist-driven character.
The visual direction balanced three worlds:
Premium — Sophisticated, Refined, Elevated, Craftsmanship, Boutique
Wellness + Self-Care — Natural materials, Intentionality, and Personal ritual
Artist Culture — Creativity, Individuality, Collaboration, and Independent professionals
The goal was to create a brand language that could establish JA as a premium, trusted presence while remaining personal and approachable, flexible enough to work across the studio experience and the growing product collection.
Premium Beauty
Sophisticated, Refined, Elevated, Craftsmanship, Boutique
JA needed to feel premium and established enough to build trust in a crowded New York beauty market, while maintaining a personal, independent character.

Wellness + Self-Care
Natural, Organic, Intentional, Mindful, Personal
The product line needed to feel like an extension of personal care, sophisticated and intentional, while retaining an organic, approachable quality.

Artist Culture
Individuality, Creativity, Collaboration, Mastery, Community
The brand needed to reflect the independent artists at its center, celebrating creative expression, expertise, collaboration, and entrepreneurship.

Early Brand Exploration
Early exploration focused on how the JA identity could extend across the studio and product collection while maintaining a unified brand presence.

Building the JA Brand Architecture
As the brand expanded beyond the studio, I developed a flexible architecture that allowed the JA identity to support multiple experiences while maintaining a consistent connection to the master brand.

Translating the System Into Packaging
The product collection needed to feel like a natural extension of the JA experience – premium, intentional, and rooted in self-care. The packaging system needed to translate the brand architecture into distinct product categories while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.
Packaging Formats
Before developing the label system, I explored physical packaging formats across the collection, from primary containers to secondary packaging. The goal was to find forms, materials and finishes that supported the premium, handcrafted character of the brand while remaining appropriate to each product and its intended use.

Early Packaging Exploration
Early sketches explored how the JA identity could translate across different product forms sizes and categories.

Concept Development
The first concepts began to establish a consistent packaging language while testing different approaches to hierarchy, materials, and product differentiation.

Refinement
The next round focused the system refining the visual hierarchy, scent font selection, and simplifying the packaging so the products felt cohesive as one collection.

Final Packaging System
The final packaging system brought the JA architecture to life across different product formats, creating a cohesive family while allowing each product to retain its own character.

Bringing the Brand to Life
With the core identity established, I extended the JA system into the physical touchpoints that introduced the studio and brand to clients – from business cards and shopping bags to exterior signage.
Business Cards
The identity extended into the everyday materials used to represent the studio, translating the JA Studios system into a polished, personal business card.

Shopping Bags
The JA identity was extended onto custom shopping bags, with production artwork prepared to the vendors structural specifications.

Exterior Signage
The JA Studios identity extended into the physical environment, translating the brand into an exterior signage system designed to establish a refined, distinctive presence for the studio.

Extending the Brand Into Digital
A Digital Experience Built From the Same System
The JA brand extended into a digital experience designed to connect the studio, the artists, and the product collection in one cohesive environment.
The website carried the same visual language established across the identity and packaging - refined typography, warm neutrals, editorial imagery and a restrained approach to color and layout.
The experience was designed to make the different sides of the business feel connected while giving each its own role within the larger JA ecosystem.
Homepage
The homepage introduced the JA world through editorial imagery, the brand story, and the core ideas behind the experience. Rather than functioning as a traditional salon website, it positioned JA as a broader lifestyle and creative platform.

JA Studios
The studio experience gave visitors a deeper understanding of the collective, its philosophy, and the artists behind it – reinforcing the idea of JA as a community rather than simply a place to receive a service.

JA Store
The store brought the product collection into the same ecosystem, extending the packaging architecture into an e-commerce experience. Product photography, category structure, and the visual language of the packaging worked together to create a consistent transition from physical product to digital storefront.

Responsive Experience
The system was designed to translate across desktop and mobile, maintaining the same hierarchy, typography, imagery, and brand character across different screen sizes.

The Result
A Brand Built to Grow
JA Studios became more than a visual identity. The system created a cohesive foundation that could move across the studio, product collection, physical touchpoints, and digital experience while allowing each expression to feel distinct and intentional.
The result was a flexible brand ecosystem designed to support the individuality of the artists and the growth of the business - connecting beauty self-care, and creative community under one recognizable identity.
